Dining Operational Updates & FAQs

Updated: 3/12/2021

Michigan Dining continues to take steps to ensure that guests remain safe while eating on campus. Our Dining program is guided and informed by public health information and University and Michigan Medicine experts.

Weekly COVID-19 testing through the university is required for Ann Arbor undergraduate, graduate, and professional students who are Housing Residents or who wish to use any campus facilities including the Dining Halls, Cafes, and Markets. Presenting the ResponsiBlue App will be required for entry into all dining halls. For more information regarding required testing visit the Maize and Blueprint page.

Guests with allergy concerns should email eatsmart@umich.edu.

Fall 2021

RESIDENTIAL DINING:

At this time Michigan Dining is planning to have all of our dining halls open for dine-in and carry-out service. Regular Fall 2021 hours are still being finalized and will be published on our website by late summer.

We are continuing our work with University and Michigan Medicine experts and our partners in Housing to determine safety measures that will be in place. At this time these include but are not limited to: social distancing, displaying ResponsiBlue screening for entrance, and wearing a mask.

MEAL PLANS:

Residential Meal Plans:
All students living in a residence hall are required to have a Residential Meal Plan. This meal plan selection will be made at the time the Housing Contract is signed. If you need to make changes to your meal plan after you have signed your contract, you will be able to do so in late August via our meal plan portal, GET.

Off-Campus Meal Plans:

Michigan Dining will be offering a buy-ahead promotion for Off-Campus Meal Plans. The promotion allows you to purchase your Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 meal plan with 2020-2021 prices and will end on May 31, 2021. More information can be found here. Off-Campus Meal Plans purchases, outside of the buy-ahead promotion will begin August 23, 2021, via our meal plan portal GET.

RETAIL DINING:

At this time Michigan Dining is planning to open all of our cafes, markets, and grills for service. Regular Fall 2021 hours are still being finalized and will be published on our website by late summer.

Spring and Summer 2021

RESIDENTIAL DINING:

At this time Michigan Dining will continue with carry-out only. We hope to offer dine-in services as vaccination rates increase.

We are continuing our work with University and Michigan Medicine experts and our partners in Housing to determine safety measures that will be in place. At this time these include but are not limited to: social distancing, displaying ResponsiBlue screening for entrance, and wearing a mask.

Michigan Dining has one Off-Campus Meal Plan, the Premium Plan, for sale during the Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 terms. Only students enrolled in the respective terms are able to purchase this plan. Students interested in this plan should contact mealplans@umich.eduStudents not enrolled in Spring 2021 or Summer 2021 can still dine with us using our Single Meal Entry Rates.

RETAIL DINING:

Some retail dining locations have temporarily closed due to low campus traffic as a result of COVID-19. Current  hours of operation can be viewed here.

Winter 2021

MEAL PLANS:

Residential Meal Plans:

Dining Dollars from Fall 2020 Residential Meal Plans rolled over if you were enrolled in a Winter 2021 meal plan by 12/20/20. If you were not enrolled in a Winter 2021 meal plan at that time, any Dining Dollar balance greater than $5 was refunded to your student account. Please email mealplans@umich.edu if you have questions regarding Fall 2020 Dining Dollars.

Off-Campus Meal Plans:
If you had an off-campus Block Meal Plan for the Fall 2020 term, under normal circumstances your remaining Fall meal swipes and Dining Dollars would only roll over with the purchase of a Winter term meal plan. Due to the circumstances this year, Michigan Dining rolled these meal swipes and Dining Dollars to roll over without the purchase of a Winter term meal plan. Any remaining balances at the end of the Winter term (April 30, 2021) will expire.

Students are still able to purchase off campus meal plans for Winter 21. For more information on off-campus meal plans click here.

RETAIL DINING:

Some retail dining locations have temporarily closed due to low campus traffic as a result of COVID-19. Current hours of operation can be viewed here.
