Biodiversity

Michigan Dining is committed to promoting biodiversity and avoiding habitat loss created by food production. Biologically diverse ecosystems are and will continue to be essential to the processes which support all life on earth. Preference is given to suppliers who are also committed to this and demonstrate it by participating in regenerative agriculture and have goals related to avoiding deforestation.

  • MDining Initiatives:
    • Recipes in MDining’s developed recipe bank containing palm oil are replaced as often as possible with recipes using palm oil alternatives because palm oil is a major perpetrator of deforestation and habitat destruction, notably wild orangutan habitats.
    • The MSC Certified Sustainable Seafood that MDining serves ensures that waters are not overfished, which protects the biodiversity of fish species and supports food security for future generations.
